About us

We believe that Jesus Changes Everything. Everything about who we are, what we value, and how we love one another revolves around our desire to connect people to Jesus for life change. We believe Scripture carries God’s authority for the total well-being of mankind, and so we seek to give God praise and allow His word to reform our hearts.

Core Values

1. Jesus First Always

2. Every Person Known

3. Every moment on mission

4. god’s way matters most

Our core values, drawn from God's word, help to shape what life looks like for those who call Redemption Church "home." We will put Jesus first in our lives, always. We will ensure that every person who walks through our doors are known and loved. We will live every moment of our lives on-mission for God's Kingdom. And regardless of what our world thinks, we will always believe that God's way is better because God's way matters most.

Our vision is to see our city redeemed one life at a time.

Our vision is to see a city redeemed one life at a time. The desire to see the greater Grand Rapids area redeemed is a God-sized vision. We cannot do anything meaningful or lasting in this area apart from God's active presence and work. We're praying that the Lord would bring people to Himself through this ministry, who will then experience the life change the Gospel brings. A fruit of life change will show itself as followers of Jesus go out and proclaim Him to others. As we say every week when we gather together, "God has you where He has you to advance the Gospel through you."

Our mission is to connect people to Jesus for life change.

We have been called to plant Gospel-centered churches, where an intentional proclamation of Jesus and His cross are the prevailing themes in everything we do. We believe Jesus changes everything. That's why at Redemption Church, every area of ministry seeks to connect people to Jesus for life change. We never move past Jesus and the Gospel, but orient our lives and attention around the person and ministry of Jesus. Everything done within Redemption Church is driven by the desire to see people connect with Jesus and live for Him.

What we believe

  • We believe in the only true God (John 17:3), eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19-20). These three are one God, having precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections, and are worthy of precisely the same glory, confidence and obedience (Mark 12:29; John 1:1-4; Matthew 29:19-20; Acts 4:3-4). He created all things (Revelation 4:11) and upholds all things by the Word of His power (Hebrews 1:3). In Him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). He is a God of truth and without iniquity, He is just and right (Deuteronomy 32:4) and He shall judge the world (Psalm 9:8).

  • We believe God the Father created all things in six literal days for His glory according to His own will (Revelation 4:11), through His Son, Jesus Christ. He upholds all things by the Word of His power and grace, exercising sovereign headship over all creation, providence, and redemption (Colossians 1:17, Hebrews 1:3). His plans and purposes cannot be thwarted. He is faithful to every promise, works all things together for good to those who love Him and, in His unfathomable grace, gave His Son, Jesus Christ, for mankind’s redemption. He made all things for the praise of His glory and intends for man, in particular, to live in fellowship with Himself.

  • We believe that Jesus Christ, the eternal Son, moved by love in accordance with the will of the Father, took on human flesh (John 1:1, 14, 18). Conceived through the miraculous work of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the virgin Mary. He, being fully God and fully man (John 14:8-9), lived a sinless life and sacrificially shed His blood and died on a cross, in our place, accomplishing redemption for all who place their faith in Him. We believe in the resurrection of the body of our Lord Jesus Christ. He arose visibly and bodily from the dead three days after His death on the cross and then after appearing to many, He ascended into heaven, where, at the Father’s right hand, He is now Head of His Body the Church. Jesus is the only Savior and Mediator between God and man, our High Priest and Advocate, and will return to earth in power and glory to consummate His redemptive mission (1 Timothy 3:16; Acts 1:3; Acts 1:9; Hebrews 7:25-26; I Corinthians 15:1-34).

  • We believe that the Holy Spirit, in all that He does, glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ during this age. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He draws the unredeemed to repentance and faith, and at salvation imparts new spiritual life to the believer, bringing that person into union with Christ and the Body of Christ. The Holy Spirit sanctifies, seals, fills, guides, instructs, comforts, equips, empowers, permanently indwells at salvation, and bestows spiritual gifts to the believer for Christ-like living and service (John 16:8; 13:15; Titus 3:5; Ephesians 1:22; 4:11-12; Romans 8:9-17; 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 12:4-5, 11-13, 19; Galatians 5:25; Hebrews 2:1-4; 2 Corinthians 12:12).

  • We believe the Scriptures of the Old Testament and New Testament are verbally inspired by God and inerrant in their original writings. We believe the 66 books of the Old Testament and the New Testament are God’s complete and sufficient revelation and therefore carry God’s authority for the total well-being of mankind (Psalm 119:97-104; Psalm 119:160; Matthew 5:18; John 5:46-47; John 10:35; 2 Timothy 3:15-16; II Peter 1:20-21).

  • We believe man — both male and female — was created in God’s image in innocence under the law of his Maker but, by voluntarily transgressing, fell from his sinless and happy state. Consequently, all mankind is sinful. All people are sinners not only by inheritance, but by their own choice and therefore are under just condemnation without defense or excuse. We believe that without exception every man and every woman is totally depraved and needs a Savior (Genesis 3:1-6; Romans 3:10-19; Romans 1:18, Romans 1:32; Romans 5:1-2).

  • We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as the substitutionary atonement in our place, and that salvation is found in none other than Jesus Christ. Before Creation, God chose those who would be saved and granted this unearned grace solely based on His sovereign good pleasure. Jesus Christ’s death on the cross was the sole and complete payment for sins, fully satisfying God’s righteous wrath, for each person that turns from sin in repentance and places their faith in Christ alone by grace alone. At salvation each person is made a new creation by the Holy Spirit, declared righteous before God, and secured as an adopted child of God forever. Genuine faith continues in obedience and love for Jesus Christ with a life eager to glorify God and persevere to the end (Romans 8:37-39; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Corinthians 12:13).

  • Upon placing one’s faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, a believer becomes part of His body, which is the church. There is one church universal, composed of all those throughout the world who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The Scriptures command believers to gather in order to devote themselves to worship, prayer, teaching of the Word, observance of the ordinances (baptism and communion), fellowship, service to the body through the development and use of talents and gifts, and outreach to the world in fulfillment of the command of Christ to make disciples of all believers (Ephesians 5:23; Romans 12:1; Acts 2:42-46; 1 Corinthians 14:26; Matthew 28:18-20). Wherever God’s people meet regularly in obedience to this command, there is the local expression of the church – under the oversight of a plurality of biblically qualified elders and other supportive leadership (Titus 1:6-9; I Timothy 3:1-16). The church’s members are to work together in love and unity, intent on the ultimate purpose of glorifying Christ (Ephesians 4:16).

  • Realizing that the cause of Christ extends beyond any one local fellowship, we commit ourselves to an ongoing ministry of extending the call of Christ to make disciples in our own community and also around the world (Matthew 28:19-20). We believe the primary focus and priority of this call is centered on efforts that establish, strengthen, and reproduce biblically-based churches, which will then plant churches that plant churches for future generations and God’s glory.

  • We believe in and expectantly await the glorious, visible, personal, premillennial return of the Lord Jesus Christ. His return has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost. The saved are raised to eternal, conscious bliss in heaven (Matthew 25:34; John 14:2; 2; Corinthians 5:1; Revelation 2:7), and the lost are raised to eternal torment in hell, in conscious separation from God, paying the penalty for their sinful rebellion against God. (Matthew 8:11; Matthew 10:28; Matthew 13:49-50; Mark 9:47-48; Luke 12:5; Revelation 21:8).
